The tournament was held in a conference room at the Hilton Garden Inn near Hilton Head. I must say that this is one of the nicest hotels I’ve been in thus far this year. Very fancy, huge lobby and outdoor patio, free hot beverages, friendly staff, outdoor pool and all the necessary things to make a good hotel. Even though, to my knowledge, there were no vending machines, there were concession stands. If you were really hungry though, there were more than 4 chain restaurants and a gas station in walking distance.

After being greeted at the entrance of the conference room of Exit 8 by three lovely ladies, who were taking care of all the fees, sign-ups and giving out the wristbands, I was very impressed by the setup before me. The Exit 8 staff really made use of the equipment that they had. There were setups all around the walls, two areas for streaming by Jaguar (David Barnes) and Samurai Perry (Julies J. Perry III), and a theater setup in front of a 52’ flatscreen TV. Let’s not forget Exit 8 had a table full of prizes to be                                                                                                           raffled off.

Aside from the venue, the Exit 8 Staff were on top of everything, making sure the setups were good, monitors were not lagging on tournament setups, brackets were correct and making sure everything was running as smooth as Gary Coleman’s face. The X360 stream was taken care of by Exit 8 Staff while Jaguar took care of the streaming for PS3. We also got a chance to play some Persona 4 on stream.

Overall, Exit 8 had a great start to becoming the next recognized tournament in SC. I can’t wait for the next event. Before we get into the gallery, I would like to give a big shout out to Charles Wilder, Avery Singleton, Michael Loftin, Julius Perry III, and the rest of the Exit 8 Staff Team. Special thanks to David Barnes for coming to stream and everybody who came and supported the event. I will now leave you with the results and pictures. It’s not as great as our Brawl photographer Brendan, but it defiantly capturing the experience of Exit 8.

Ohso & EGO presents Brawl at the Beach IV in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Our first Brawl at the Beach changed the GAME in Myrtle Beach. The second Brawl at the Beach was a great success and learning experience. The third Brawl at the Beach brought real competition and hype to an anime convention. Brawl IV is going back to the club and it’s going to be bigger, better and will start from noon to who knows. Yes you will get to experience the nightclub; there is no limit for this tournament to be done!

NEW! We are hosting the Saturday night party after 9PM called Hypenight! Brawl will still continue yet the club will now be open. Mingle with the fellas and the ladies coming in. Show them how to play fighting games or how to bust-a-move!

1: We are taking Brawl back to its roots at a new venue, Club 2001! This venue is three nightclubs in one! Plenty of space!

2: We have a dedicated bracket manager running each bracket.

3: We will have 12 tournament setups (+2 setups for the stream)! 6 x 360′s and 6 x PS3′s!

First things first; the special guests were VERY special! Doug jones, Margot Kidder, and Giorgio Tsoukalos just to name a few! They were all super nice and fun to talk to! They were seated at the entrance of the convention and got a ton of attention from the guests. Giorgio gave a great panel about aliens, if they came to earth, and what his thoughts were about ancient aliens.

There was an assortment of events as well. There were multiple costume contests that gave guests the opportunity to not only see the costumes but vote on them, as well as our very own Brawl at the Beach 3 which drew in around 80 people competing for over $1000 in cash and prizes, and there was wrestling on a custom built stage in the center of the convention!

Unique vendors filled the convention hall with all types of wares. There were plenty of comics and manga to be had at great prices. There were also some pretty cool vendors that had custom made sandblaster mugs, beer glasses, and shot glasses with your favorite logos from some well-known shows, games, and the like. There was no shortage of vendors selling tabletop games like Warhammer 40k and Heroclicks!

I think one of the best parts of this convention was the costumes going around. There were people from all over dressed up (and down) like their favorite characters from anime, games, and comics. We have tons of photos in the gallery of all the different people.

Xcon V in Myrtle Beach was a HUGE success and an amazing event! We can wait until next year to participate! This was definitely one of the best events in Myrtle Beach and we hope to see you there!

The store is full of pre-owned dvds. If you’re a kung fu nut like me, you could get lost in the huge selection of movies, many of which you’ve possibly never heard of. It’s always the ones that you’ve never heard about that kicks the most ass too. If you’re not into action flicks, they have the other usual genres to satisfy your needs.

Want to check out some old school video games? Kilgor has it! In addition to the recent generation of games (Xbox, 360, PS3, etc.), they have some old school games and systems like Sega, Gameboy, Master System, Gamecube, and Playstation. I think I even saw a Virtual Boy and an Aura Interactor Vest, which is basically a giant rumble vest that was made for consoles back in 1994.

I can’t recall the last time I’ve seen so many vinyl records. It makes you want to dust off a record player and give them a spin. For all those late 90’s and 2000’s babies that don’t know, it’s like a black compact disc (sometimes in other colors), yet it’s not compact, made out of vinyl, and ranges from 7 to 12 inches in diameter. If you need to know more, Google will help you. If you don’t have a record player, they have cds available too.

If none of these things satisfy you, the store has tons of other stuff such as stickers, t-shirts, buttons, post cards, tobacco accessories and so much more. So if you can’t figure out what to do with that old record player or video game system, head on over to Kilgor Trouts and trade it in for something you can use! If you got nothing to trade in, go in and buy some of that old school stuff that takes you back. Also, don’t forget to pick up a free lollipop or rubber on the way out!

The Landmark Resort is one of Myrtle Beach’s longest standing resort on the beach in Myrtle Beach! I remember going there for birthday parties as a kid. I had so much fun in their waterpark and there was plenty of room for everyone. Parents can let the kids run wild and get out all their energy while relaxing by the pool! There is also direct beach access!

The Landmark Resort has a number of amenities available including 300 foot Outdoor Lazy River Ride, Children’s Summer Activity Program, Free Wireless Internet in All Units, and within walking distance to some of the best Nightlife Myrtle Beach has! Inside FEMMA are trophies, banners, flags, boxing ring, cage in the middle, weights, tires, and numerous other large pieces of equipment lying around. This place is made to train fighters, but it’s also a gym so anyone can come in and train. You don’t need to enroll; it’s just $15 a day. They have tons of classes that you can participate in throughout your day, things like Muay Thai, Kick Boxing, Fitness, and more! We spent most of our time taking photos on the 19th and returning on the 24th to catch some sparing action, but our time with FEMMA isn’t over. We’ll be stopping in to possibly take part in some classes ourselves.

Brawl at the Beach 2 was a great success, there were a ton of people who came out to support. Toward the end of the tournament there was a series of unfortunate events that took place. We’ve modified our system to better facilitate you, the competitor. Check out our changes below and don’t forget we’re always open to suggestions!

Changes:

1: We have changed the venue. We’re now having our 3rd installment at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. This will allow plenty of space!

2: We have a dedicated bracket manager with 2 displays dedicated to no more than 2 different brackets per display! (IE: 1 bracket manager will run the 4 brackets and each bracket will update to 2 separate displays for competitors to view).

3: We will have 12 tournament setups (+2 setups for the stream)! 6 x 360′s and 6 x PS3′s!

4: We have altered our tournament layout to facilitate competitors ability to get to stations quickly and easily!

5: We will have dedicated tournament manger’s/judges keeping track of who’s where in each tournament! This information will be recorded and delivered to the bracket manager.

Prizes/Pot:

Each game will be 70/20/10 from its own pot. The top two games with the most entries will get a $100 pot bonus. Prizes will be announced soon.

Volunteers:

If you have a monitor, game, X360, cables, controller, etc. you would like to bring to the event, please contact us. There will be areas to set up for casual matches and games as well. If you plan on doing this, please email the tournament organizers ahead of time. We have all VIP areas reserved for system setups for everybody and for private parties.

We would like volunteers to help with running brackets. If you would like to volunteer please contact any of the tournament organizers below for details.

Registration:

In order to be eligible you must be 12 or older. Ages 12 and under must have a parental guardian. We are not responsible for your child. We request that you secure your spot in this tournament prior to the night of for seeding purposes. Please follow the link below to purchase tickets and save your place. Those that do not RSVP may be subject to an additional charge at the door.

The tournament starts at 12PM EST, so please have all your equipment ready to go prior.

Follow these steps to pre-pay your venue fee and register for Brawl at the Beach III(tournament entry is $10/game and will be collected at the venue) :

1) Go to http://www.xconworld.info/tickets.html

2) Purchase a $10 Three Day Ticket to Xcon. (Just press “Add to Cart”.)

3) When you are at the PayPal checkout, click “Continue Shopping”.

4) Under “Game & Tournament Tickets” look under “Brawl at the Beach III Entry Fee” and click “Add to Cart”. It will take you back to the PayPal checkout.

5) You should now have 1 Three Day Ticket and 1 Brawl at the Beach III Ticket which totals to $15. Continue to checkout and pay for your tickets.

Venue Rules:

The venue is open to ALL AGES! Just make sure you purchase a three-day ticket to X-Con V. You don’t have to pay a Brawl at the Beach III entry fee to spectate.

Even though this is inside the convention center and not a nightclub, please follow our golden rule: Don’t come in the venue looking or smelling like a hot mess. We will still spray you with Old Spice.

BYOC: Please bring your own controllers and fight-sticks for your own personal use. Please label your belongings to prevent theft.

Please keep all drinks off the game stations. This ensures no damage to any equipment.

-Winner keeps the same teams, assist, and order

-Loser may change teams and assist

- 2/3 Matches (3/5 for Winners, Losers and Grand Finals)

- 100% health and soul gauge

- Double Elimination

- First match is random stage.

- Winner keeps the same character.

- Loser may change character /rematch / choose another random stage

Street Fighter X Tekken (PS3)

- 2/3 Matches (3/5 for Winners, Losers and Finals)

- 2/3 Rounds

- Double Elimination

- Winners character is locked.

- Loser of the match can change character.

General Rules:

- Take a shower beforehand.

- If you miss your place in the tournament due to fault of your own, you may be rescheduled if time permits but it isn’t guaranteed.

- IF WE CATCH ANY THEFT IT WILL BE DEALT WITH BY MB LAW ENFORCEMENT. We will not tolerate theft at this tournament. Keep this event theft-free to minimize physical pop-offs.
